MARIN COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) -- A woman in San Rafael was reunited with her dog Tuesday evening, after he was stolen from her front yard.

Cameras captured the moment a person walked up to Cindy Pickens' San Rafael home around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. They can be seen opening the front gate and taking her 12-year-old dog, Wesley.

She believes the thief knew the golden retriever was there because they brought a dog leash with them.

“That’s just really disturbing that somebody would come up and take your dog,” said Pickens.

She posted about Wesley on social media, the Nextdoor app, and put up flyers all over her community. Spreading the word helped, and Pickens got a call Tuesday that Wesley was found walking on Ignacio Boulevard in Novato.

Pickens immediately drove to the Novato Humane Society to pick him up. His collar and dog tags were missing, but Pickens is just relieved to have him home safe and sound.

“I bought him a toy, new color, bully sticks, brought him back home and he went to bed within minutes,” said Pickens, who was thankful for the homecoming while unable to get it out of her head that someone would steal Wesley.

“That was really a cruel thing for somebody to do,” said Pickens.

Pickens filed a police report with the San Rafael Police Department and is offering a reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest of the person responsible.
