Terry Ward, 64, of Richmond, was arrested October 11 and charged with felony abduction and misdemeanor assault and battery against a family or household member following the bizarre domestic incident. According to local reports, Ward allegedly restrained his wife in a chair in the basement of their home near Byrd Park before heading upstairs to watch football.
According to police, officers were called to the home around 11:30 p.m. for a reported domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and took a report from an adult female.
His wife told investigators she remained restrained for 30 to 45 minutes. When officers arrived, they reportedly observed marks and tape residue on her arms. Ward allegedly acknowledged tying his wife to the chair, according to the criminal complaint. The officer also documented an admission from Ward himself.
“Terry stated that he did indeed tied his wife, [name omitted], to a chair and place her down in the basement,” the officer wrote in the criminal complaint.

The case has gone viral for its odd circumstances, but the allegations involve a serious accusation of domestic violence and unlawful restraint.
