COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) announced that K9 Tre will receive body armor from a nonprofit organization, embroidered with the sentiment “In honor of K9 Roam.”

K9 Roam retired in January of 2026 after he was stabbed repeatedly in the head, neck, and abdomen by a barricaded suspect during an arrest attempt in northeast Colorado Springs.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of veterinarians, Roam was discharged three days later after undergoing several hours of emergency surgeries – including one to remove his left rear leg.

CSPD says the bullet- and stab-proof protective vest donated to K9 Tre by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is expected to be delivered within ten weeks.

Each vest the nonprofit donates has a value of $1,800, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty.
